Head of Design

Salary - £75k plus benefits.

Overview

This role has been created in recognition of national company growth and future plans and principally will provide design support to the buying department.

The role will consist of working closely alongside buying teams in research, design and development of commercial fashion ranges from initial concept to production.

Responsibilities/ Objectives:

  • Creation of initial trend/story boards with colour palettes in conjunction with buying team.
  • Highlighting key seasonal colours.
  • Generation of Colour Packs using Pantone or equivalent references.
  • Identify key shapes and details.
  • Research of Designer catwalks, fashion press, WGSN etc.
  • To be revised and updated continuously.
  • Re-interpretation and development of inspirational samples.
  • Creation of original, commercial ‘Copyright’ designs.
  • Proposals for multiple colour options where appropriate.
  • Suggestions as to how individual garments sit into trend groupings.
  • Creation of Technical garment specification drawings for buyers Far East packs.
  • In a timely manner in accordance with individual reams requirements.
  • Close liaison with QA department on technical drawings with measurement tables.
  • Assist buyer with core shapes on key departments.
  • Entry of designs onto free boarders system.
  • Use of CAD for the creation of original graphic artwork.
  • Product development, print designs and graphics.
  • Technical design – including trims, panels and stitching detail.
  • Responsible for organisation and filing within network.
  • Responsible for auditing and monitoring current freelance design provision (forecasting and technical) to provide the optimum design service possible within pre-determined budgetary constraints.
  • Update Buying Controller monthly in this regard.
  • Selected travel to relevant Fashion and Trade shows.
  • Ideas sketching whilst on trip.
  • Identify key concepts and direction.
  • Key/Hot Brands reporting.
  • Create comprehensive written report for buying team within 48hrs on return.
  • Accompany Buyers on selected comp shopping trips.
  • Ideas sketching whilst on trip.
  • Involvement in inspiration sample buying.
  • Colour and key shape indicators
  • Create comprehensive written report for buying team within 48hrs on return.
  • Aid Buying Controller/Senior Buyer in departmental range coordination.
  • Consistent colour and stories across departments.
  • Timing of colour/story intake.
  • Attend rack ups and assist range selection for fashion and shape.
  • Research and design of packaging and labelling alongside Buyer.
  • Raising brand awareness.
  • Innovative ideas working within brand and price constraints.
  • Involvement in internal/external PR activity.
  • Assist team in preparation of photo shoot samples to optimise trend message.
  • Help identify key looks/outfits for windows/POS from a ‘trend’ perspective.

Advisors for the Inbound Calls department. Based in Cardiff Bay our client offers a market leading rate of pay and additional benefits such as Child Care Vouchers, Free Eye Tests and Discounts with certain Retailers, this coupled with a fantastic working environment and the opportunity to earn an annual bonus of up to £2000 gives any applicants applying the reward that they deserve. 

The basic hourly rates for this role is £7.05 increasing to £7.12 after 10 months and additional overtime payments.

Requirements

You shall need to pass a DBS check and Financial Probity Check to be shortlisted.

Training is 3 weeks which is Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.30pm – consisting of 2 weeks classroom based learning then a week of coaching and support where the successful candidates shall be taking calls in a supported environment.

Smart Solutions Recruitment urgently requires upto 240 x LGV class 2 Drivers for work on a permanent basis for a minimum of 12 months across the UK.

Smart Solutions are guaranteeing a minimum 40 hours per week for a year with an extension to this contract depending on performance. Overtime is available and paid at a premium.
